The NTAS Board of Directors has a few vacant seats that needed to be filled with interested volunteers who wished to help and make a difference in the life of Tongan-Americans in health, education, the arts, sports, and administration.

     The Board is also welcoming interested responsible people wishing to extend NTAS's services in other states. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the NTAS Salt Lake City Office to inquire and receive training in preparation to open a new NTAS chapter.

Published

 

A quarterly on-line newsletter is published by the National Tongan-American Society (NTAS) to provide information, and to solicit feedbacks and inputs from members and friends, and the publication is called the "Si'oto 'Ofa Journal".

       In Tongan, Si'oto 'Ofa (lit. My Love) is an endeared greeting to one's beloved relative, friend, or anyone the greeter had missed and longed to see for a while.The selection of the name for the NTAS newsletter is appropriate to describe our longing to communicate with you, our beloved members and friends, whom we have not seen or heard from in a while. We anticipate that your receiving the Si'oto 'Ofa Journal (SOJ) will provide some useful information for you and your kāinga (extended-family), that you would also let us know how you are doing, and how we could find opportunities to benefit us all.

 

Journalist Sione Mokofisi named editor

    

    Named as editor-in-chief is experienced journalist Sione Ake Mokofisi. His writings had been published both in Tongan and English in Taimi 'o Tonga, Tonga Star, Tau'atāina Tonga and distributed in the U.S. Mainland, Hawai'i, Tonga, New Zealand, and Australia.

   Mokofisi began his journalism career as reporter, photojournalist, and editor of Ke Alaka'i student newspaper of Brigham Young University - Hawai'i where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree; and later earned a graduate degree in Master of Business Administration from the School of Advanced Studies, University of Phoenix where he is currently studying for a doctoral degree in international business administration. 

    His full-time career is in travel industry management involving airlines customer service management, hotel management, travel and tour companies management. His journalism experience also included reporter for the Anchorage (Alaska) Daily News, Billings (Montana) Daily Gazette; the weekly Alaska Business Journal; the Alaska Oil and Gas News magazine columnist; editor, Tundra Drums; Officiating.com magazine columnist. 

 

Print Publication Planned       

    

    SOJ is published quarterly electronically for now, but we hope to publish a print version as well to be mailed to our kāinga who do not have access to the Internet. It is published in English and in Tongan, and the editors wished to add other Polynesian and Paicific Islands languages when Sāmoan, Māori, Tahitian, Hawaiian, Fijian, and Micronesian writers joined the staff.

    SOJ coverage will include news and commentaries on issues concerning NTAS members and friends.

However, thought-provoking commentaries and creative journalistic views are encouraged by the Society in this newsletter, and on this Website.
